Scleroderma, a common
but rarely-known disease

Scleroderma . . .
  • Is a chronic, auto-immune connective tissue disease generally classified as one of the rheumatic diseases.
  • Is also commonly known as systemic sclerosis. Scleroderma, however, can be classified as systemic or localized.
  • Symptoms may either be visible, as in the case when the skin is affected, or invisible when the internal organs are involved.
  • Has symptoms that may range from very mild to potentially life threatening.

Scleroderma is NOT . . .
  • Contagious.
  • Cancerous or malignant in any way.
  • Inherited, as a general rule.

Schedule of Rhode Island Events, frequently updated, now through March 2018.

The Rhode Island Scleroderma Support Group (RISG)* meets at 7:00 p.m. usually on the fourth Wednesday of the month - but sometimes different days in November and December. Normally, the location is in the Day Treatment Room (1st floor, handicapped accessible from side entrance), Roger Williams Medical Center, 825 Chalkstone Avenue, Providence, RI 02908, United States of America.

DATE & LOCATION EXCEPTIONS: In January and February we normally take a winter vacation from meetings. See our schedule for details and any changes. Schedule of Rhode Island Events

*The support group is not a medical clinic of any kind, but is simply for peer to peer information and assistance.
