June is National Scleroderma Awareness Month in 1999.
Carole Cowell, founder and organizer of the RI Support Group, sent letters to at least 22 area newspapers and promoted scleroderma awareness at area movie theaters. The Woonsocket Call printed a notice about SD Awareness Month and our June '99 meeting. Some theaters were also helpful.
Linda is a teacher and has successfully promoted a dress-down day for students and faculty at her school. At our June 23, 1999, get together Linda told us that the event was a big success.
BICYCLING POSITION FILLED BY VOLUNTEER
The Rhode Island Support Group has found a representative to participate on our behalf in the Massachusetts Worcester County SD Group's First Annual Bicycle Ride for Scleroderma, which takes place on June 27, at 9 A.M., in North Grafton, MA. All proceeds go to the Scleroderma Research Fund, an all-volunteer non-profit out of Massachusetts. Frank Farrell, brother of Ann S. of the RI Group, will be cycling for us. Mr. Farrell has also donated the admission fee! Special thanks to him from all of us at the RISSG.
